Continuing Care Month in the Municipality of the
District of Guysborough


WHEREAS continuing care services and programs help people living in our communities to maximize their independence, promote their heath and well-being, and sustain or enhance their quality of life.

WHEREAS a variety of organizations, employees and volunteers are committed to providing quality care and support to people of all ages who require continuing care services and programs.

WHEREAS this is an opportunity for the Municipality of the District of Guysborough to recognize the many caring and dedicated people who work and volunteer in continuing car.

THEREFORE be it resolved that the Council of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough, proclaim the month of September 2010 as Continuing Care Month.

National Hunger Awareness Day in the Municipality
of the District of Guysborough


WHEREAS addressing the household food security needs of families and individuals today is fundamental to the future of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough;

AND WHEREAS the need for comprehensive, co-ordinated emergency food programs places upon our community a critical responsibility;

AND WHEREAS it is appropriate that a day be set apart each year for the direction of our thoughts towards the health and well-being of Canadians who are hungry;

AND WHEREAS Feed Nova Scotia, as the provincial member of Food Banks Canada, and local member agencies are together caring for the needs of hungry families and individuals in our community;

NOW THEREFORE the Municipality of the District of Guysborough  does hereby proclaim June 1, 2010 to be Hunger Awareness Day in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough and urge our citizens and all agencies and organizations interested in meeting the needs of people who are hungry to unite on that day in the observance of such exercises as will acquaint the people of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough with the fundamental necessity to help our neighbours by supporting the work of food banks and emergency meal programs and by working together to eliminate hunger and poverty.

National Immunization Awareness Week in the
Municipality of the District of Guysborough


WHEREAS Public Health Services of the has identified immunization in the Municipality of the County of Guysborough  as an important public health measure for all Canadians;

WHEREAS Parents and health providers in every community have a responsibility to ensure that children are immunized on time and receive the full schedule of vaccinations required to protect them from serious disease;

WHEREAS a week profiling the importance of immunization in Canada would increase public awareness public awareness that many diseases are effectively and safety controlled by immunization, thereby reducing the burden of illness in our communities;

WHEREAS Immunization is considered to be the most cost beneficial health intervention and one of the few that systematically demonstrates far more benefits than costs;

WHEREAS the Municipality of the County of Guysborough  is joining other municipalities to encourage childhood immunization around Vaccination week, April 24 – May 1, 2010.

NOW I, Vernon Pitts, Deputy Warden of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM the week of April 24 – May 1, 2010 National Immunization Week.

Seniors' Falls Prevention Week in the Municipality
of the District of Guysborough  


WHEREAS falls among older Nova Scotians are one of the leading causes of injury in Nova Scotia, with each year, one in three Nova Scotians over the age of 65 experiencing a fall; and

WHEREAS preventing falls and fall related injuries and helping seniors maintain their independence is a priority in our communities; and

WHEREAS our Municipality embraces the goal of an age-friendly community where every citizen can participate fully; and

WHEREAS the Government of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough is committed to working with the Guysborough County Preventing Falls Together Coalition to provide communities with the information and tools needed to prevent falls and fall-related injuries;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Municipality of the District of Guysborough hereby proclaims November 22 to 28, 2009 as Seniors’ Falls Prevention Week in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough and do command its thoughtful observance to all citizens of our Municipality.

Restorative Justice Week in the
Municipality of the District of Guysborough
 

WHEREAS, in the face of crime or conflict, restorative justice offers a philosophy and approach that views these matters principally as harm done to people and relationships; and

WHEREAS, restorative justice approaches strive to provide support and opportunities for the voluntary participation and communication between those affected by crime and conflict (victims, offenders, community) to encourage accountability, reparation and a movement towards understanding, feelings of satisfaction, healing and closure; and

WHEREAS, this year’s theme for Restorative Justice Week is "Communities Responding to Human Needs", it is an opportunity to learn, educate and celebrate along with other communities across the country about restorative justice during the week.

THEREFORE, I, Lloyd Hines, Warden of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough, do hereby proclaim November 15 - November 22, 2009 as Restorative Justice Week in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough.
