Emergency Management Office (EMO)
In the 1990's, Municipalities have been legislated to comply with the Emergency Management Act of Nova Scotia and have the following five things.
A Municipal Emergency Management By-law
A Municipal Emergency Management Organization
Appoint a Emergency Management Coordinator
Appoint a Committee consisting of Council Members
Prepare and approve an Emergency Management Plan
Currently, the Municipality is in the process of updating our plan to ensure that it is up-to-date and current.
For 2007, the municipal float was geared toward EMO and 'Being Prepared'.
Also, the Municipality has designed a number of community halls as comfort centers to be used in an emergency. A map showing these locations is being produced.
A comfort center is defined as a place to find warmth, light food, assistance and support and is staffed and maintained by the community.
