Sable Offshore Energy Project

The Sable Offshore Energy Project (SOEP) land-base is located at Goldboro, within the Goldboro Industrial Park. The industrial park is owned by the Municipality of the District of Guysborough. Led by a consortium of ExxonMobil, Shell Canada, Imperial Oil Canada, Mosbacher Operating Ltd and Pengrowth Energy Trust, the Goldboro facility is linked to fields producing natural gas in the vicinity of Sable Island, on the edge of the Nova Scotia Continental Shelf in eastern Canada. SOEP produces between 400 and 500 million cubic feet (14,000,000 m3) of natural gas and 20,000 barrels (3,200 m3) of natural gas liquids every day.
The first tier was completed in 1999 resulting in the development of the Thebaud, North Triumph, and Venture natural gas fields and the completion of the Gas Plant in Goldboro as well as the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline connecting to markets in the North-Eastern United States. The first gas was shipped to market in January 2000.
The Sable Offshore Energy Project lies near Sable Island, 10km to 40km north of the edge of the Scotian Shelf, offshore Nova Scotia, in water depths ranging between 20 and 80 metres. The Sable Offshore Energy Project consists of the six gas fields Venture, South Venture, Thebaud, North Triumph, Glenelg and Alma.
The Sable Offshore Energy Project is the largest capital project in the history of the Province of Nova Scotia – over $3 billion. The development put in place physical infrastructure that has attracted additional investment interest. As a result of this interest, the Municipality of the District of Guysborough has assembled approximately 1000 acres of zoned industrial land adjacent to the Goldboro Gas Plant.
The Goldboro Industrial Park offers deep-water, marine industrial access to large tracts of industrially zoned land.
