Guysborough and Canso Minor Soccer
The 2014 youth minor soccer season has started up full swing in Guysborough and Canso. The Recreation Department is happy to announce that we have about two hundred students age 4 to 14 enrolled in this free popular program. The program began in May and wraps up on June 28th with a year-end tournament in Mulgrave. Guysborough recently hosted its tournament this past weekend. The Tournaments are special events because it is a day where the players can show off their skills for many fans while being physically active and interact with other teams and families. The Recreation Department would like to thank all the volunteers in Canso and Guysborough who make this program a success.
If anyone has any pictures they would like to send in from recent minor soccer games please feel free to post them on the MODG Facebook page.

Recreation Update

This summer the Recreation Department had the pleasure of partnering with a community group called CIA for Kids (Communities in Action). Students within our Municipality had the opportunity to travel to special events for a day of fun with their friends - free of charge! These events are important because students have the privilege of traveling to other communities, experience different venues and the social interaction they encounter throughout the day is also valuable.

On July 11th, students, day camp leaders and parent volunteers travelled to Antigonish for a fun day of games at Columbus Field, bowling and lunch together at McDonald’s. The bus picked students up in Canso, Guysborough and continued on to Lincolnville filling the bus with lots of excited students. On August 8th the group travelled to Black Duck Cove (see photo below) to take in the beautiful weather while playing organized games, jumping in the Bouncy Tent, and swimming at Black Duck Cove beach. On August 14th sixty children travelled to Magic Valley to participate in fun water games (see photo below), visit the storybook village and receive a yummy ice cream treat. All these events were free for students and transportation was made available. Thank you to CIA for Kids for all their hard work fundraising to make these trips possible – there are lots of smiling kids within our Municipality.
