Results from the 29th Annual Guysborough County 55+ Games

The 29th Annual Guysborough County 55+ Games took place on August 17th and August 18th at Liscombe Lodge. The municipal recreation departments from MODG, St. Mary’s and Mulgrave organized this annual event along with seniors from the games committee. This year over eighty seniors participated in the games and the wet weather didn’t stop the fun, games, singing and dancing. We would like to thank the nurses who were on call, the recreation leaders for their help, the seniors that participated and of course the helpful staff at Liscombe Lodge for their wonderful hospitality and the delicious banquet meal.
We hope to see everyone next year for our 30th anniversary year!

Provincial Volunteer Recognition

Isabelle Williams was this years Municipal representative to attend the Provincial Volunteer Awards Ceremony in Halifax on Monday, April 4.
Isabelle found a great sense of community through her volunteer work 12 years ago. Now she regularly volunteers with St. James Church in Halfway Cove, Chedabucto Volunteer Fire Department, and offers alot of time on her own.
She serves at funeral receptions, makes sweets for weekly card games, helps with the annual Mackerel Derby, and holds fundraisers for different organizations.
A highlight for her is seeing the community come together for the Annual Kids Christmas Party. She helps fundraise to purchase enough gifts for Santa to give a toy to each child who attends. If there is something going on in her community, Isabel is there to help.  Thank you Isabel!
Isabel's community wanted to thank her for her dedicated volunteer work in their community by surprising her with a return plane ticket to visit her brother in Vancouver.

Chedabucto Lifestyles Complex Revealed
February 11, 2016

The Council of the municipality of the district of Guysborough has approved the design and engineering of a new recreational facility located at the campus of the Chedabucto Education Center in Guysborough. The idea for an indoor arena project that was proposed nearly ten years ago has been replaced with the “Chedabucto Lifestyles Complex” which will better serve all generations and all demographics.

The facility will complement the existing recreational infrastructure (outdoor swimming pool, baseball field, tennis courts and existing playgrounds) by providing a more community-centric campus.

The new complex will consist of a regulation size artificial turf soccer field with a four lane running track and new seating area. A new building will be constructed which will house the Chedabucto Fitness Center, community meeting/event space, Recreation Department office space, an elementary-sized gymnasium and most importantly a new home for the GOALS organization and their students.

Attached to the building will be a shinny rink with removable boards which can be used for countless skating/hockey purposes and a refrigerated skating loop which will measure almost a kilometer in length. The skating loop can be used in off-season months for roller blading, walking etc.

This group of facilities will serve not only residents of MODG but those outside of the Municipality who wish to access it.

Please see the visuals below for a closer look at all this great facility has to offer not only our youth but people of all ages!
