African Heritage Month
With a strong and vibrant African Nova Scotian population in our Municipality, each February Council proclaims the entire month as African Heritage Month in MODG. At the Committee of the Whole meeting on February 4th, Council adopted the following proclamation:
PROCLAMATION IN CELEBRATION OF AFRICAN HERITAGE MONTH
WHEREAS the Government of Canada has deemed February as African Heritage Month;
WHEREAS the people of African ancestry contributed positively to the shaping of our Canadian Society;
WHEREAS the people of African ancestry have been residents of Nova Scotia for over four hundred years;
WHEREAS the Municipality of the District of Guysborough values and celebrates rich cultural diversity;
THEREFORE I, Warden Vernon Pitts, the Municipality of the District of Guysborough do hereby proclaim the Month of February as African Heritage Month in recognition of the achievements and contributions of the African Nova Scotian community. We will strive to promote awareness, knowledge and understanding among people while furthering pride, dignity and inspiration in those who identify with African Heritage.
