Energy

Global energy supply is in a period of transition. With renewable energy developments and geographical assets ideal for energy trade, the District of Guysborough has a role to play.

Green Energy

In renewable energy, the Municipality partnered with Nova Scotia Power to develop a 13.8 MW wind farm – Sable Wind – at the east end of the District, near Canso/Hazel Hill. This project is exceeding all expectations in generating power.

We’re also committed to green energy in municipal operations, from installing solar panels to heat swimming pools and capturing methane at the Waste Management Facility to installing electric vehicle charging stations.

Goldboro LNG

Along our Atlantic coastline, Goldboro is the site for Pieridae Energy’s planned $13 billion LNG project. With a final investment decision due in 2021, the Goldboro LNG project would include a natural gas liquefaction plant and facilities for the storage and export of LNG, including a marine jetty for loading. The facility is anticipated to produce approximately 10 million metric tonnes of LNG per year. The site is adjacent to the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline, a 1,400-kilometre transmission pipeline system built to transport natural gas between developments in Nova Scotia, Atlantic Canada and the northeastern United States.

The project calls for up to 3,500 jobs during construction and up to 200 positions for ongoing operations and maintenance.
